Welcome to the Gloucester Sheriff's Office Communications Division. The Communications Division Supervisor is Elizabeth Simmons. Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office currently has nine full time and one part time dispatcher. Our dispatchers work a 12 hour rotating shift. The Communications Division plays a vital role in day to day operations for our office. They are responsible for all incoming communications to include telephone, emergency 911 requests, non-emergency request, not to forget dispatching to Law Enforcement, Fire and Rescue, and providing assistance to Virginia State Police. If needed, they are able to provide EMD (Emergency Medical Dispatching) to callers until Rescue arrives on scene. They are the vital lifeline for our officers on the streets. In 2008, our dispatch center received 134,287 calls. In addition to call taking, they processed 2127 criminal warrants in 2008 and entered 3305 entries for stolen property. All of our Public Safety Dispatchers are certified through the Hampton Roads Regional Academy of Criminal Justice.
Each year, supervisor Elizabeth Simmons, gives tours of the 911 dispatch center to our local schools and area scout troops. She teaches them when and when not to use 911. The kids love it!
