YOUTH ATHLETICS

VERY SLOW, POT BELLIED, BALD HEADED, BAD KNEES, OVER 35 BASKETBALL LEAGUE

For ages 35 or older by first game, women over 18 may play, providing they are not currently playing college basketball.  Modified league, no fast break after a missed shot by outlet pass, no pressing until the last 2 minutes of each half.  Players May score a maximum of 8 baskets/game (unlimited foul shots).  Fun & exercise league, no awards presented.  620540-01, Monday-Thursday, February 22-April 29, 6:30-9:30 pm, Achilles, Bethel, Botetourt, $360/team, deadline February 5.

SOMEWHAT SLOW, GETTING A GUT, THINNING HAIR, ACHING KNEES, OVER 35 BASKETBALL LEAGUE

For ages 35 or older by first game.  Play straight up VHSL rules (sorry, no dunking), culminating in single elimination tournament.  Trophies awarded. More competitive league than modified league.  620540-02, Monday-Thursday, February 22-April 29, 6:30-9:30 pm, Peasley, Achilles, Botetourt, Bethel. $425/team, deadline February 5.

ANCIENT HISTORY BASKETBALL LEAGUE

For men ages 50 or older & women ages 35 or over by first game.  Rules modified, no fast break after missed shot by outlet pass, no pressing allowed.  Teams play 4 on 4 at Petsworth’s short court.  Register by team, no team we try to help you find one.  No awards presented.  630550-01, Monday-Thursday, February 22-April 29, 6:30-8:30, Petsworth, $220/team, 1 official per game, deadline February 5.

WOMEN’S SOFTBALL LEAGUE

For women ages 15 or older (15-17 need written permission).  Organizational meeting, mid March, call February 1 for date.  Make-ups will be scheduled when & as needed.  720680-02, Monday & Wednesday, May-July, $380/team, deadline May 14.

COED SOFTBALL LEAGUE

For ages 16 or older, (16-17 year olds must have written permission to participate).  Organizational meeting, mid March, call February 1 for date.  There may be morning games.  720690-02, Sunday, May-August, GHS, $400/team, deadline May 14.

FLAG FOOTBALL FOR ADULTS

For ages 18 and over and out of high school.  Limited contact league. Very popular 1st season in 08. 7 man football/14 max roster.  Teams play a 10 game schedule, top 4 teams advancing to playoffs.  Organizational meeting Wednesday, January 13, 6:30 pm PR&T Office.  622640-01, days, dates, times, location, $450/team, deadline January 8

SENIOR LEAGUE BASKETBALL

For ages 15-18 as of 9/30/09 who are still in high school.  Both boys & girls divisions are offered.  Teams play an 8-10 game schedule & a single elimination tournament. Mandatory team assignment night is Thursday, January, 7, 6:30 pm, Page Middle School.  PLAYERS MUST ATTEND!  610570-01, boys, 610580-01, girls, Monday-Thursday, January 19-April 1, 6:30-9:30 pm, Peasley, Page, Achilles, $30, deadline January 1

JUNIOR LEAGUE BASKETBALL

For ages 12-14 years as of 9/30/09.  Both boys & girls divisions offered. Not enough in either division, combine for co-rec division.  Teams play 8-10 game schedule.  Mandatory team assignment night Wednesday, January, 6, girls 6:30 pm, boys 7 pm, Peasley. COACHES & OFFICIALS

Volunteer coaches & referees are needed for all basketball, softball, field hockey & soccer leagues.  Training is provided.  The pay is not good, but the rewards are GREAT!  A super way to contribute to the youth of your community. For information on volunteering call Billy Moore at 693-1262.

SPRING YOUTH SOCCER

Rugrats, Looney Toons & Juniors Divisions

For ages 5 to 11 as of 9/30/09.  Players remain in the same division as Fall Soccer, if applicable, register for the proper division. Main goals: sportsmanship, learning & fun. All players must wear shin guards.  610320-01, Rugrats (simplified rules for 5 years), 610330-01, Looney Toons (6-8 years), 610340-01, Juniors (9-11 years), February 22-May 15, practices Abingdon & Ark Parks, Bethel, Peasley & Walker weekday evenings (5 or later start time), games on Saturday 8:30 am-dark & occasional Sunday 1:30 pm-dark, Abingdon & Ark Parks, $30, deadline 2/ 1

SENIORS & MASTERS DIVISIONS

For ages 12-18 as of 9/30/09.  Players remain in the same division as Fall Soccer, if applicable.  Main goals: sportsmanship & fun.  All players must wear shin guards. Some out of county games.  610350-01, Senior division 12-14 years, 610390-02, Masters division 15-18 years, (18 year olds must still be in high school), March 8-May 15, practice Ark & Abingdon Parks, Bethel & Page weekday evenings begin 5 pm or later. SOCCER PLAYTIME

For age 4 as of 9/30/09.  MUST BE 4 ON THIS DATE!  Goal: let kids get comfortable with a soccer ball & be around other kids in an athletic setting.  Basic skills taught, fun drills, relay races, fun & no games.  Children who played fall soccer remain in the 4 year old division for the spring season.  610410-01, 1 or 2 days a week, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, March 9-April 18, begin 5 or 5:30 pm for 45 minutes & Saturday 9 am, Noon, 1 pm, 2 pm, Abingdon & Ark Parks & Walker, $15, deadline February 1

FIELD HOCKEY

For ages 8-10, 11-13, 14-18 as of 9/30/09.  Note 18 year olds must still be in high school.  13 years who played J.V. or varsity school field hockey in the fall will play in the older division.  ONLY 13 years who played at Peasley or Page in the fall will play in the 14-18 division.  All other 13 year olds play in the 11-13 division.  Equal play time league designed for fun & sportsmanship, no standings. STAR WINTER GAMES

For ages 6-18.  A program for kids with special needs.  Wheelchair bound kids welcome. Fun games & sports, noncompetitive but challenging, provided by volunteer coaches.  Children participate according to their needs.  The program is individualized for each participant to best help them physically and for their enjoyment and self esteem. The participants must wear tennis shoes. WHIFFLEBALL

For ages 4&5 as of Sep 30, 2010. This league for boys and girls is strictly for fun, no score or standings kept. Plastic balls and bats and a tee will be used. Coaches are on the field to help. Everyone plays the whole game & bats each inning. Teams meet 8 times, no more than twice per week. There will be a 15 minute instruction period followed by a 3 inning wild and crazy game.  710810-01, Monday-Thursday, June 21-July 22, 6:15 pm, GHS, Abingdon & Ark Parks, $15, deadline May 1

TEEBALL

For ages 6-7 as of Sep 30, 2010. This league for boys and girls is a great learning & fun experience. The fundamentals are taught to prepare players for baseball & softball. Safety balls and tees are used. All players bat in each inning. Gloves are required, bat and ball are recommended but not required. Make sure before buying a bat it meets PR&T standards. COACH PITCH SOFTBALL

For ages 8-10 as of 9/30/10. A lifetime sport, for boys & girls features slow pitch softball & coach pitch.  Equal playtime for all players, teams meet 1 or 2 times/week for practices & games.  Gloves required, softball bat & rubber cleats recommended. KIDS PITCH SOFTBALL

For ages 11-14, 15-17 as of 9/30/10. These leagues for boys and girls features the great lifetime sport, slow pitch softball. Equal playtime for all players. Teams meet 1 or 2 times per week for practices and games. Gloves are required and a softball bat and rubber cleats are recommended.
